Given the fragile political and economic situation, SDC in the past mostly helped vulnerable people affected by internal conflict and the cyclone Nargis to restore and improve their living conditions. In response to recent political, economic and social changes, Switzerland will increase its engagement in Myanmar and complement humanitarian aid with development cooperation. The objective is to contribute to poverty reduction and to support the transition towards democracy and consolidated peace. The focus of the future strategy will be on employment and vocational skills development, health and social inclusion, agriculture and food security, and protection of vulnerable people. The volume of Switzerland's yearly engagement in Myanmar is planned to increase from yearly10 million Swiss Francs in 2012 to approximately 38 million in 2017.
