Project Information

A strong commitment has been made to narrow the development gap among the ASEAN member states to build a sustainable ASEAN community. The ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC) and JICA have been jointly supporting the acceleration of this process through the Lao Pilot Program (LPP). The joint collaboration between ASEC and JICA aims to support the initiative of the Government of the Lao PDR under this joint cooperation mechanism.

The LPP aims to balance development growth with environmental conservation, to create harmonization of development. The LPP is comprised of the following components to turn its concept of "Clean, Green and Beauty of Laos" into reality. These include:

• A tourism component to establish and apply an effective mechanism for tourism promotion based on sound, sustainable, use of resources through Public - Private Partnership collaboration significantly contributing to Lao tourism in 2012;
  
• An environment component that aims to share expertise and experiences in creating Environmentally Sustainable City Guideline emphasizing effective waste management and waste-water treatment; and
  
• An agriculture component to introduce Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) for safe and quality agricultural production promotion.
