Project Information

The project contributed to the country's sustainable and equitable agricultural growth by increasing the competitiveness of agriculture and agro-based products and improving linkages among stakeholders (producers, traders, product processors and consumers). It hoped to increase commodity and product values along their supply chains, and facilitate more upstream capture of rents arising from increased values.

The expected outcome of the TA was a detailed project proposal for enhancing the quality and safety of agricultural products, and was expected to lead to the following:

• Improved quality and safety standards of agricultural and agro-based products;
• Increased number of viable small- and medium-sized enterprises entering in agriculture and agro-industry; and
• Improved capacity of farmers, central and local-level government institutions, and private enterprises in promoting and adapting to the relevant market value chains.
  

Complementary Information

The gender action plan was implemented in the project with several gender aspects such as the active involvement of women, engagement of female trainers and community facilitators, promotion of the hiring of women and equal pay for men and women for work of equal value, and awareness training for men on women.
