Project Information

The project's main objective was to complete the adoption of intensive potato production into the cropping system of small-scale farmers. It's immediate objective was to ensure production through the implementation of the recommendations from the first phase of the project. In order to ensure continued cooperation, capacity strengthening and the continued successful implementation of the project.

Expected outputs included:

• Introduction of multiplication techniques in potato planting in targeted areas;
• Strengthen certification procedures for seed potatoes; - Enhance a registration process for improved varieties for potato production;
• Improve quarantine measures; and
• Implement seed and agricultural policy advice.
  

The target groups were farmers in seed potato producing areas in 12 cooperatives/ communes in northern Vietnam involved in basic and certified seed potato production; and farmers in table potato producing areas. The indirect target area was about 10% of the total potato production area in Vietnam, which covered 3,000 ha of table potato and 84,000 potato farmers in 2007.
