Project Information

This regional project, funded by the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC), became operational in June 2009, and has set regional goals and and action plans that will produce tangible results on improving and sustaining income and competitiveness of small agricultural producers in Lao PDR and Myanmar and associated supply chain actors in Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and China through expanded cross-border trade of certified higher value produce.

The four immediate objectives of the program were as follows:

  • Development of effective and safe production, handling and transport technologies for the purpose of profitable and sustainable exports to high value markets;
  • Establishment of effective and appropriate technical and commercial practices among farmer groups and among other supply chain participants such as transporters, traders, exporters;
  • Development of additional markets and new supply chains and channels for small farmers to sell their produce; and
  • Small farmers producing consistent high quality of certified produce.
