Project Information

The project's overall objective was toincrease the productivity and competitiveness of Vietnamese smallholder agriculture and related rural enterprises.

Component 1 focused on the delivery of relevant, high quality, collaborative agricultural research and development projects between Vietnamese and Australian institution with the aim to gain the following results:

• Innovations adopted by smallholder agriculture
  
• Improved productivity and competitiveness
  
• Stability through diversification
  
• Knowledge products developed to support training
  
• Improved dissemination of information
  
• Further research capacity development.
  

Component 2 aimed to assist MARD in institutionalizing a 'best practice' process to plan, manage and monitor and evaluate the agricultural research and development program with the following results:

• A clear Agricultural Research and Development Policy and Strategy
  
• A sustainable capacity within MARD to manage the Research & Development Funding Mechanisms and monitor and evaluate impacts
  
• An operational Research and Development Information Management System.
  

The project yielded the following outputs:

• Development of technologies and educational or knowledge products that address specific constraints in agriculture
  
• Strengthening of Vietnam's human and institutional capacity to develop and apply such products
  
• Efficient and effective management by MARD of CARD program and stronger capacity to manage agricultural technology and knowledge development programs.
  

It targeted all MARD research and education institution, research and education institutions from the Ministry of Fisheries, agriculture education and training institutions belonging to the Ministry of Education and training, related rural enterprises defined as activities of government, private sector or non-government organizations or agencies involved in agricultural product value adding, and the agricultural supply chain.
