Project Information

This project sought to improve the food security situation of the rural populations affected by the soaring food prices of 2007 and 2008 through the distribution and improved access to agricultural inputs, addressing basic food needs and food processing improvement, and the conduct of vocational training and support to professional groups in the agriculture sector. The project was under the Food Security Support Programme of the Government of Cambodia.

The main project activities included:

• Provision of farm inputs (seeds, fertilizers and basic tools)
  
• Training in good agricultural practices
  
• Provision of aquaculture inputs and training in improved practises
  
• Distribution of post harvest equipment (dryers, threshers, windmills, silos) and training
  
• Distribution of small gardening equipment and training in nutrition
  
• Rehabilitation/improvement of small scale irrigation and drainage schemes, construction of community ponds, wells and distribution of moveable pumps
  
• Capacity building of extension staff and provision of inputs to policy development in the agricultural sector.
