Project Information

The overall objective of the project was to allow community and social organizations as well as government agencies at all relevant intervention levels to increasingly replicate and practice natural resource management (NRM) in selected areas. The project aims to improve the livelihood of the rural population through introduction of participatory procedures which help facilitate a demand-driven rural development and sustainable management of natural resources.

The expected outputs of the project included the following:

  • Support to DPI in coordination of rural development programs, with special focus on ethnic minorities;
  • Development and improvement of upland farming systems;
  • Assistance to forest development planning (FMP) at district, commune, and hamlet levels;
  • Assistance to development of social organizations for community-based NRM;
  • Assistance to development of service delivery systems (extension, marketing, farming inputs); and
  • Assistance to land-use planning and land allocation (LUP/LA).

The target groups of the project were the local population in the two districts, belonging mainly to the ethnic groups of M'Nong, Ede and J'Rai. The villagers were involved in all planning and decision processes related to the utilization of agricultural and forest resources as well as to community development in general.
