Save the Children has been working in Vietnam since 1990s beginning with helping Vietnamese children in the most impoverished communities in central Vietnam. Since then, Save the Children has expanded its programmes within the country, supporting the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children to gain access to education, healthcare, nutritious food, gainful employment and protection services.
Save the Children’s programmes have resulted in key changes in government policies, including our significant contribution together with other NGOs in the establishment of Bank for the Poor, a foundation for the current Vietnam Bank for Social Policy. Save the Children also initiated a program that teaches Vietnamese as a second language for ethnic minority children that was approved by the Ministry of Education and Training in 22 pedagogy colleges.
